The Gullni Hringurinn.

Iceland is not Iceland without the Golden Circle! It is called the Golden Circle because of the diversity of landscapes which give a global overview of the island. The circle brings together the 3 most mains spots on the island : the Thingvellir National Park, one of the most beautiful I have visited is recognized and classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Gulfoss waterfall and the Strokkur geysir. The access is very easy by car, from Reyjkavik it takes about 45 minutes between each spot.

Thingvellir !

The air is pure, the views are diverse and breathtaking! I think it is just as pleasant to walk there in winter despite the bitter cold and in summer. I feel like I'm in Lord of the Rings movie set ! I learned from the guide that some scenes from the Game of thrones series were shot there !

Thingvellir !

Incredible !

Gullfoss waterfall

The waterfall is a cascade divided into two stages. In Icelandic Gullfoss waterfall means "golden fall", it is so called because of the rainbow that forms above the fall. I didn't get a chance to see the rainbow but the stunning panorama reminded me of Niagara Falls in Canada.

I was amazed !

It was so cold that day that I was as frozen as an iceberg !

I'm proud to have braved the cold !

The Strokkur Geysir

The Geysir ! By definition, the geyser is a source of hot water that can violently propel water and at intervals. That of Strokkur gushes water every 10 minutes, it's a very super impressive show !. The water is very hot the maximum temperature can go up to 100° it is important to respect the safety distances indicated during the show.

New highlight! I still felt like I was in New Zealand when I visited the Wai-o-tapu spot in Rotorua where you can admire a magnificent geysir.

Photo taken before the eruption !

Amazing show !

The Golden Circle is worth to see ! I don't regret having done it in winter despite the cold, the views are different from one hour to another. Also for those who are going to venture by car, the roads are very risky, it is very important to reach a guide about safe places and above all to check that the car is equipped with snow tires !
